Solitude used to be good for self-reflection and self-reinvention. But now we are left thinking about who we are all the time, without ever really thinking about who we are. Facebook denies us a pleasure whose profundity we had underestimated: the chance to forget about ourselves for a while, the chance to disconnect.

This is the hoodie and pants I did in the same fabrics as the dress. The front, back, and sides of hood are in the mustard nylon, the center hood is in a red orange and the sleeves are in baby mesh. The whole thing has black herringbone twill tape binding and there is a waist tie also in the black herringbone twill tape.

The pants are a basic jean pattern (custom made to fit me by Steven at Custom Studio) in a black stretch denim and mustard nylon, again with the black herringbone twill tape. I went a little overboard on the twill tape, but I really like how it all turned out.

CCSF Fashion Show - Ethereal Night
Last Sunday (I missed it due to prior family obligations, but here are photos!)

I wish they got a photo of the back of this dress because a giant zipper comes all the way up. This dress was designed in conjunction with the hoodie and pants (next post) because they wanted pieces for the ‘althetica’ section. Not normally the kind of thing I do, but I actually really loved working with these nylons and mesh of various sizes.

This dress has black nylon up the front (it is super smooth-like butter;) and giant black mesh up the sides with a center back in mustard nylon and a black finish metal zipper. There is a thick black herringbone twill tape in the back to cinch it up so you get the sculptural look in the front. The hem is asymmetrical front to back.

People Who Live by Erica Jong

Sopelana, Spain

People who live by the sea
understand eternity.
They copy the curves of the waves,
their hearts beat with the tides,
& the saltiness of their blood
corresponds with the sea.

They know that the house of flesh
is only a sandcastle
built on the shore,
that skin breaks
under the waves
like sand under the soles
of the first walker on the beach
when the tide recedes.

Each of us walks there once,
watching the bubbles
rise up through the sand
like ascending souls,
tracing the line of the foam,
drawing our index fingers
along the horizon
pointing home.
